This course is intended for those students who have an interest in and want to know more about the visual arts. If you have a passion and flair for art and enjoy drawing, painting and exploring various media, art materials, techniques and processes, then this is the ideal course for you.
What do you need to apply for the course?
You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above, one of which should be an Art and Design subject.
What are the key things you’ll learn?
This course will develop your visual awareness, improve your observational drawing skills and introduce you to the basic principles of Fine Art. You will learn how to develop, review and refine ideas to produce personal creative outcomes in painting, drawing and sculpture.
How you will learn
Primarily you will learn through practical lessons in well-appointed studios and you will find out what is happening in the world of art by visiting galleries, museums and exhibitions. Additionally, further independent contextual research will be encouraged by visiting artists and gallery websites, and by reviewing art on newspaper websites
Where could this course take you?
A-Level Fine Art will help you to pursue a career in the creative industries. Your next step could be a higher education art or design course at Sunderland College or a Foundation Diploma course followed by an Undergraduate Degree in a more specialist field of Art & Design at University.
What costs will you incur?
There will be little cost involved except the purchase of a couple of sketchbooks and a set of basic materials for independent studies and homework.
